Fluctuating Weight…

Posted: June 20, 2010 in Uncategorized

As I have said before I know weighing everyday is bad, but I do it anyways. I definitely do understand why you shouldn’t though, seeing the numbers go up and down on the scale everyday even though I have not strayed from my diet drive me nuts. The reason I way every day though, is because when I do see that number go down it drives me to keep going. When I see the number randomly go up though, it reminds me that I have to stick to my diet or I will gain even more weight. So even though weighing every day doesn’t work for some people, it is my motivation. Another thing I am using for motivation is a dry erase board. I got a magnetic dry erase board which I stuck to the fridge, to remind me of the progress I am making. That way when I want to stray I just see that board and think differently.

Week 1 Weigh In Results

I tend to break the cardinal rule of dieting, which is I weigh myself everyday.  I can’t help it when I wake up and I have lost weight that day I feel amazing.  On the other hand if I somehow gained two pounds overnight (like I did one day this week) I obsess over it.  So I see where they are coming from.  In the end though my starting weight was 270.6 lbs. and my weight today was 265.4, so I lost 5.2 lbs.  Not great, but at least it’s something.  Now on to week 2.

I choose to support Diabetes research, because I have always feared that if I didn’t get my weight under control then I would get Diabetes, since it runs in my family.  I feel that with the growing obesity epidemic diabetes research is more important then ever.

I had previously said I wanted to wait to start exercising until I lost 20 or 25 lbs.  I changed my mind today and tried a a “boot camp” type work out.

The work out is the following:

1. Begin by walking for five to 10 minutes to warm up–walk briskly or slow jog.

2. Stop and do push-ups.

3. Resume walking or jogging for five minutes.

4. Stop and squat or squat thrust.

5. Resume walking or jogging for five minutes.

6. Stop and do jumping jacks.

7. Resume walking or jogging for five minutes.

8. Stop and do chin-ups, as many as you can. If you’re outdoors, utilize, for example, playground equipment such as a jungle gym or sturdy bars to execute chin-ups.

9. Resume walking or jogging for five minutes.

10. Stop and do one set of push-ups.

11. Do one set of squats.

12. Do one set of jumping jacks.

13. Do one set of chin-ups.

14. Cool down with a five-minute walk or jog.

15. Finish up with a set of sit-ups.

Each set of exercises is 15-30.  I found this at:http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0826/is_1_19/ai_97115873/pg_2/?tag=content;col1

I made it through step 7 and did an extra 25 jumping jacks, but I had to quit.  I didn’t give up because I couldn’t do it, but I had done the entire thing outside in the rain and at about step 6, I realized the storm was getting worse and it started lightening so I had to give it up.  I am super happy with myself though just for even attempting to work out.

I picked the turtle because I feel like it will be a slow journey…but one that’s well worth the struggles.

Day 4

Posted: June 13, 2010 in Uncategorized

It has been 4 days since I have started and I am happy to say I am down 3.4lbs.  Not a huge accomplishment, but I have to start somewhere.   I have had one slip up… on Day 2 I did really great until dinnertime, when my mom made cheeseburger meatloaf…I love cheeseburger meatloaf!!  I didn’t go over board, but I also didn’t eat the 4 oz serving size.  Lucky for me I didn’t gain any weight back, but I also didn’t lose any that day either.  I am managing to keep my calories to about 1600-1700 a day and my fat between 20-30 grams a day.  As I said in a previous post compared to what I used to eat, that’s a huge accomplishment.  Yesterday, I had a small triumph as well, my family went to Wendys and I didn’t eat any fast food which was super hard since all I could smell was yummy french fry goodness!  I have not really incorporated any exercise into my diet yet, because I am afraid that if I change to much all at once I will fail, but I think once I lose about 25 lbs. I will be ready to go.

Take 2…

Posted: June 11, 2010 in Uncategorized

Sometimes the first time is not always a charm… Well I had some slip ups the last few days, temptation and emotions got the best of me and I turned to food to comfort me.  Well yesterday (6/10/10) I started my diet once again.  I weighed in and I was at 270.6.  I did good today though and ended up eating 1545 calories and 30.5 grams of fat.  This might seem like a lot,but I’m also the person who would eat an ENTIRE can of Pringles, plus a Lunchable just for lunch.  There are about 77 grams of fat and 1120 calories in a can of pringles, add in a Lunchable at 350 calories and 13 grams of fat and my total lunch is 1470 calories and 90 grams of fat.  When I put things into this perspective I realize this is a great change for me.  Now all I have to do is make it through all the temptation and I’ll be home free.
